Blackburn striker Anthony Stokes is edging closer to a return to first-team action but is unlikely to feature in the home game against Sheffield Wednesday.

Summer signing Stokes, who has missed the last five games due to a knee injury, is scheduled to play for the reserves on Monday.

Wes Brown is hoping to make his debut following his arrival as a free agent last week but may have to settle for a place on the bench again.

Fishy goings on at half-time in Derby's Championship meeting with Blackburn

Mackerel Jordan made a splash in the Championship on Saturday.

To suggest that there was something fishy about the half-time entertainment during Derby's home defeat against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon is to do the bizarre scenes at the iPro Arena a huge disservice.

With the game still goalless, fans were treated to a weird and wonderful performance out on the pitch at the break in which a huge inflatable fish in a basketball strip appeared to actually eat and swallow one of Derby's "coaches."

Danny Graham returned to inflict further misery on Derby who lost at home for the fourth game in a row as Blackburn won 2-1 at the iPro Stadium.

The Rams had scored their first Sky Bet Championship goal at home this term to go in front through Matej Vydra but Marvin Emnes equalised with a deflected shot.

Graham, who failed to score during a loan spell with the East Midlands club earlier in his career, then grabbed the winner for Rovers with 17 minutes remaining.

The result leaves Derby, who started...

Wes Brown signs for Blackburn Rovers on a free transfer

Wes Brown was released by Sunderland in the summer.

Blackburn Rovers have signed former Manchester United defender Wes Brown on a free transfer.

Brown, 36, had been training with the Championship club since the beginning of preseason and has now penned a deal until the end of the current campaign.

The former England international, who was at Sunderland last season, will also spend time helping coach Blackburn's under-23 side.

Substitute Chris Wood struck late on to send Leeds through to the EFL Cup fourth round with a 1-0 win over Championship rivals Blackburn.

Wood broke the deadlock in Leeds' victory over Rovers seven days ago and he came off the bench to settle the cup clash with his sixth goal of the season.

The New Zealand international's timely strike gave United a third win in a row and ensured Blackburn failed to build on their first Championship victory of the season.

Rovers made nine changes to Leeds' seven...
