When Sporting meet Benfica, historical rivalry leads to new tensions

The Portuguese capital Lisbon came to a halt on Monday as legendary footballer Eusebio was laid to rest.
The Estadio Jose Alvalade, home to Sporting, was the scene for the latest meeting of two of Portugal's biggest clubs.

In the latest edition of ESPN FC's derbies series, which features eyewitness insights into some of the biggest rivalries in world football, Lee Roden went to Lisbon for the clash between Portuguese giants Sporting and Benfica.

Filip Djuricic signs for Southampton from Benfica

Filip Djuricic has decided to move to England.

Southampton have completed the signing of attacking midfielder Filip Djuricic from Benfica on loan until the end of the season.

Djuricic, 23, was on loan for the first half of the season at German side Mainz 05, but has chosen to move to the Premier League and Southampton boss Ronald Koeman is delighted with the flexibility he will bring.

Filip Djuricic has yet to complete a move to Southampton.

Southampton remain interested in Benfica's attacking midfielder Filip Djuricic, but reports of a confirmed loan deal are premature.

A statement on the Serbia Football Association's official Facebook page suggested a six-month deal had been agreed, crediting a report from national broadcaster B92, whose headquarters are in Belgrade.

It had been suggested the move was confirmed by Southampton on their own official website, which was incorrect.
