Minister wants Furiani disaster marked with no games on May 5

Bastia players marked the anniversary of the Furiani disaster with a minute's silence last season.

France's Sports Minister Thierry Braillard has proposed that no football games should be played on May 5 in memory of those who died at the Furiani disaster 23 years ago.

Eighteen people were killed and more than 2000 were injured when a temporary stand at Bastia's Stade Furiani collapsed prior to the 1992 Coupe de France semifinal with Marseille.

Bastia supporters' groups have been campaigning for years to have the date of the tragedy -- May 5 -- marked by having no matches staged on it.

Marseille ended their season with a 3-0 win over Bastia, but were unable to secure Champions League qualification.

Dimitri Payet's opener and Alexander Djiku's own goal made the game all but safe by half-time and Lucas Ocampos added a late third.

But with Monaco winning 1-0 at Lorient, the win served only to keep OM ahead of St Etienne for fourth place in Ligue 1.

The Stade Velodrome paid homage before kick-off to Andre Ayew, who has confirmed his departure at the end of the season, and Andre-Pierre...

Bastia's Djibril Cisse says move to play in MLS 'would be cool'

Djibril Cisse says he would like to play in the United States if he can recover from a hip injury.

Djibril Cisse says "it would be cool" to play in Major League Soccer after doing a U-turn on retirement plans.

Earlier this season, Cisse, 33, announced he would be hanging up his boots at the end of the Ligue 1 campaign because of a debilitating hip injury.

However, though he has not started a league game for Bastia this season and made just six appearances in total, the former France and Liverpool forward told France Football he is determined to play again next season, with MLS a particularly...

Bastia missed out on a fourth successive Ligue 1 win, but both they and opponents Caen can look forward to another season Ligue 1 football after a 1-1 draw.

Bastia's recent surge had seen them pull clear of trouble, but Caen were still searching for a win to be sure when the match kicked off.

Their early opener from Sloan Privat was soon cancelled out Floyd Ayite, but a share of the spoils proved enough as Evian lost at home to St Etienne to suffer the drop.

Caen took the lead with the first decent...

Ten-man Bastia maintained their late-season revival and ended Rennes' six-match unbeaten run with a 1-0 victory in their Ligue 1 mid-table clash.

The visitors had Francois Kamano sent off two minutes before half-time following a second yellow card for a dangerous tackle from behind on Paul-Georges Ntep and Rennes missed a penalty before Gael Danic struck the winner on 78 minutes.

Bastia had clawed themselves out of the relegation battle on the back of consecutive victories over Evian and St Etienne...
