Rafa Marquez: Atlas DNA similar to that of Barcelona

ESPN's John Sutcliffe sits down with Rafa Marquez to reflect on his first four World Cups and opens up on the U.S. Treasury investigation.

New Atlas sporting president Rafa Marquez wants his club to follow the Barcelona model.

Marquez was formally presented in his new position at his first club Atlas on Tuesday, just weeks after the 39-year-old captained Mexico at his fifth World Cup.

"I'm thankful for the trust placed in me," said Marquez in a news conference. "I'm starting a new stage with the team in which I took my first steps [as a pro] and in which I finished my career.

"It's a team I love and there is a lot of responsibility.

Pep Guardiola, Xavi Hernandez congratulate Rafa Marquez on 'spectacular career'

ESPN's John Sutcliffe sits down with Rafa Marquez to reflect on his first four World Cups and opens up on the U.S. Treasury investigation.
Sebastian Salazar and Herculez Gomez reflect on Rafael Marquez's contributions to El Tri and how he might fit into Juan Carlos Osorio's World Cup plan.

Former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola and midfielder Xavi Hernandez have lauded Mexican defender Rafa Marquez's career, after the 39-year-old confirmed his retirement in a thank-you letter on Saturday.

Marquez featured for Mexico at the World Cup, but had already retired for club side Atlas and made it known that Russia 2018 would be the end of his career.

Marquez wrote that he felt "very satisfied" with his 22-year career and highlighted that the happy times outweigh the more negative episodes.

Rafa Marquez to be 'sporting president' at Liga MX club Atlas

ESPN's John Sutcliffe sits down with Rafa Marquez to reflect on his first four World Cups and opens up on the U.S. Treasury investigation.

Recently retired Mexico international Rafa Marquez will become a director at Liga MX club Atlas, club president Gustavo Guzman has confirmed.

Marquez played for Mexico at Russia 2018 in his fifth World Cup, despite being on the United States Treasury Department blacklist for links to a drug cartel, and will now take up a role at his first club.

"After Mexico went out [of the World Cup], he is taking some days off and in a couple of weeks he will become part of the organization as a director," Guzman...

Atlas' Ravel Morrison won't rule out Mexico stay - sources

GUADALAJARA, Mexico -- Ravel Morrison is not ruling out a stay in Mexico after his loan deal with Atlas ends this summer, sources tell ESPN.

There has been initial interest from Liga MX clubs still in the 2018 Clausura playoffs -- Toluca and Monterrey -- although the former Manchester United youth product is currently resting up and recovering from lingering injuries before deciding on his club future.

Morrison, 25, featured 20 times for Atlas in Liga MX after joining on loan at the end of last...

Rafa Marquez has retired but will he still play for Mexico at the World Cup?

Sebastian Salazar and Herculez Gomez are joined by MLSSoccer.com's Calen Carr to talk all things Juan Carlos Osorio, including how his coaching style and tactics have impacted El Tri.

Rafa Marquez's club career has come to an end. The most decorated player in the history of Mexican football bowed out as Atlas drew 0-0 against Pachuca on Saturday in Estadio Hidalgo.

There should be no doubt as to how important Marquez is to the Mexican game. Only Hugo Sanchez has come close to Marquez's haul of four La Liga titles, two Champions Leagues, two Liga MX titles and one Ligue 1 trophy.

Whether 39-year-old Rafa Marquez plays another competitive game of football again or is definitively...
