Guadalajara bragging rights will be on the line Saturday night in what is always a spirited affair between Chivas and Atlas.

It's almost time for Week 7 of the 2019 Clausura! Before Liga MX returns with another set of highly anticipated matches, here are three things to watch out for:

Two Clasicos in one weekend

Liga MX fans will get to enjoy two massive rivalry games this weekend.

First up on Saturday night in Guadalajara is the Clasico Tapatio. As the oldest rivalry in Mexico, the battle between Chivas and Atlas is a fascinating one that has existed for over 100 years. This season, things are already beginning to get...

"I'm here to rebuild myself," the 26-year-old said, after initially agreeing to train with the Swedish club with a view to making a permanent switch. "To enjoy it, to play football,...

Gerardo "Tata" Martino is making headlines as he weaves his way through Liga MX stadiums in search of his first group of national teamers. Not one month into the job, Martino has ruffled some feathers in Mexico by saying he would consider naturalizing players to beef up his squad.

Alas, the former Atlanta United manager has his work cut out for him in that regard. Rogelio Funes Mori, who said he was interested, is a long shot due to FIFA regulations prohibiting one-time switches for players...

Atlas' Messi-based Instagram joke backfires as rival fans roast the long-suffering Mexican club

Lionel Messi followed Atlas on Twitter on Thursday but don't expect to see Messi in Liga MX anytime soon.
Lionel Messi followed Atlas on Twitter on Thursday but don't expect to see Messi in Liga MX anytime soon.

Long-suffering fans of Liga MX club Atlas have not seen their team win a first-division title since 1951, but the Guadalajara institution achieved something on Thursday that no other Mexican club can boast: Lionel Messi followed them on Instagram.

And they made the most of being one of the 219 accounts that Messi follows.

Los Rojinegros posted an Instagram story "welcoming" Messi to the "red-and-black" family, before adding another explaining that he wasn't actually joining the struggling club,...

Tigres unlucky, Cruz Azul overrated in Liga MX based on expected goals metric

Tigres are currently ninth in the table but based on expected goals would be top of the table.
Tigres are currently ninth in the table but the expected goals model would have them first.

There are two outstanding statistics a neutral would immediately find when scouring the Liga MX 2018 Apertura table after seven rounds of matches of the season. And both involve the number zero.

The first is Cruz Azul's undefeated start to the season; the other is Atlas' inability to score even a single goal.

But, as a little bit of midseason entertainment, what if we used expected goals to work out the result of each of the 63 games so far in the Apertura? How would it change our outlook on...
