Introducing Mexico's new first-timers: Javier Guemez and Arturo Gonzalez

As mentioned before, Miguel "Piojo" Herrera has made gradual and conservative changes for Mexico with his call-ups. The manager has recognized the need to field a strong squad while also assimilating new players into the national team.

For this week's friendlies against Honduras and Panama, Herrera decided to utilize two new players for El Tri -- 22-year-old Javier Guemez of Club Tijuana and 20-year-old Arturo Gonzalez of Atlas.

In the past, there has been the occasional Liga MX weekend with only a couple of noteworthy matches, but a quick glance at Week 10's schedule for the Apertura showcases plenty of mouth-watering options for fans. Take for example the fact that the top six teams in the league will play against one other member of the top six this weekend: No. 5 Santos Laguna vs. No. 1 Club America, No. 4 Monterrey vs. No. 2 Atlas, and No. 6 Club Queretaro vs. No. 3 Toluca.

Liga MX Power Rankings: Monterrey move to top as America slip up

Monterrey forward Humberto Suazo scored the game's lone goal off of a counterattack in the first half to put them level with America at the top of Liga MX.

It couldn't last forever. Club America had to lose eventually. It's just that almost anything would've been preferable to a 1-0 defeat to Mexico City rivals Pumas in the Estadio Azteca. The loss let the increasingly organized and clinical Monterrey sneak up to first place in the Power Rankings after its 1-0 win on the road to Queretaro.
