Melbourne City marquee Ritchie de Laet: 'I just want to play football again'

New Melbourne Victory signing Ola Toivonen speaks on a particular incident involving Swedish fans at the World Cup.

Melbourne City signing Ritchie de Laet's CV includes an English Premier League medal, promotion and international caps with Belgium.

Aston Villa fans may get the chance to get a first glimpse of Steve Bruce's new-look Villains side when they take on Blackburn Rovers in EFL Championship action this Saturday.

Melbourne City bring in Ritchie de Laet on loan from Aston Villa

Melbourne City have bolstered their defence ahead of the A-League campaign, signing Belgian Ritchie de Laet from Aston Villa on a season-long loan. 

The deal is the second in as many years from the English Championship club, having brought striker Ross McCormack on an injury replacement deal last term.

De Laet said the Scot, as well as Villa-based Socceroos captain Mile Jedinak, recommended the club after coach Warren Joyce came calling.
