AS Roma shows surprising toughness during impressive win against Atalanta

AS Roma played with determination for Eusebio Di Francesco in their win against Atalanta.

Roma got off the best possible start with a hard-fought win at last season's surprise package Atalanta that was encouraging for the very un-Roma qualities that it highlighted: grit and doggedness.

An excellent return to Serie A from Aleksandar Kolarov was capped off with a cheeky 31st-minute free-kick, which he rolled under Atalanta's jumping wall as though he were 12 yards out rather than 25, and the Serb saved the three points in stoppage time when he charged out to block Josip Ilicic's powerful...

Roma head into season with flaws and dampened expectations

ESPN FC's Gab Marcotti gives his Serie A predictions for the new season.
ESPN FC's Gab Marcotti gives his Serie A predictions for the new season.

An underwhelming preseason and transfer window means Roma are starting a new season with the lowest expectations since Rudi Garcia had to fend off protesting fans outside the Trigoria training ground back in 2013.

Their recent trip to Spain, which highlighted some obvious flaws in both the first XI and the second string, has dampened enthusiasm for Roma's chances of challenging for the Serie A title ahead of Sunday evening's opening trip to last season's surprise package Atalanta, with AC Milan...

Roma look very much a work in progress under Di Francesco on eve of season

Gab Marcotti previews the upcoming Serie A season with his predictions for the top four and the Scudetto winner.
Late second-half goals from Sergio Escudero and Nolito were enough for Sevilla to hold off Roma in their club friendly.

Turning over to the Italian Super Cup would have made for some sobering viewing for Romanisti on Sunday night. While their hapless second string were being slapped about the park by middling La Liga side Celta Vigo, city rivals Lazio were limbering up for what would turn out to be a spectacular, dramatic and eventually victorious curtain-raiser against Juventus.

As Lazio kicked off at the bubbling Stadio Olimpico, Roma were flailing around in front of less than 7,000 spectators, four...

Roma welcome PSG's world record breaker Neymar with weird video

As you've probably heard, Neymar officially rubber-stamped his world-record move from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain on Thursday evening.

As soon as the transfer went through, the Parisian club went all out to welcome their new star on social media, posting a series of photos and videos using the #BienvenidoNeymar hashtag.

Weirdly, Roma also decided to gatecrash the welcome party, heralding Neymar's arrival at PSG with a slightly unsettling video of their own concoction.

Terrifying masks, grisly...

Roma legend Francesco Totti's shirt launched into space

With the blessing of the man himself, an Italian rocket design company have blasted Francesco Totti's iconic Roma shirt into space.

On Tuesday, Avio loaded an exact replica of the shirt Totti wore on his 786th and final appearance for Roma into a capsule and launched it into orbit.

According to Roma's official website, it was the club themselves who first suggested propelling Totti's jersey into space to immortalise their retiring legend's commitment and dedication over the years.

The plan was then...
