Kevin Strootman, Edin Dzeko help Roma overcome struggling Sassuolo

Kevin Strootman's mastery in midfield helped Roma overcome a slow start against Sassuolo.

Roma returned to the humdrum everyday action of Serie A after Thursday's disappointment against Lyon with a functional but uninspiring win over struggling Sassuolo that maintains the Giallorossi's grip on second place and automatic Champions League qualification.

The scoreline might make Sunday night's victory look comfortable, but it wasn't until substitute Edin Dzeko bagged his 21st league goal of the season -- the Bosnian playing a delicious one-two with star man Kevin Strootman and bashed past...

Roma's European adventure ends as Dzeko proves non-factor in second leg

Roma's push for a comeback came up short as Lyon booked a ticket to the Europa League quarter finals on 5-4 aggregate.
Roma boss Luciano Spalletti had plenty to say about the sportsmanship of their Europa League opponents Lyon.

Roma's Europa League adventure is over despite dominating and beating Lyon 2-1 in the second leg of their last-16 tie at the Stadio Olimpico on Thursday. The Serie A team ultimately fell 5-4 on aggregate as they failed to overcome their 4-2 deficit from the first leg in France, where a second-half collapse left them with too much to do.

A powerful 17th-minute header from Kevin Strootman immediately after going down to a similar Mouctar Diakhaby goal, followed by a Lucas Tousart own goal on the hour...

Edin Dzeko aims to send Roma into quarterfinals as he nears club record

With three consecutive losses in all competitions, Luciano Spalletti takes the blame for Roma's drop in form of late.

On a balmy early evening in November 1988, Roma took to the Stadio Olimpico pitch facing elimination from the UEFA Cup. A 4-2 beating at the hands of Partizan Belgrade in what was then still Yugoslavia left Nils Liedholm needing to win by at least two clear goals; at a pulsating building site of a ground, a thumping Rudi Voller strike and an ice-cold penalty from Roma's other legendary local No. 10, Giuseppe Giannini, put paid to Partizan. Can Luciano Spalletti's contemporary Roma, led by modern...

Clement Grenier steps up for second string Roma in Palermo win

Watch the match highlights for Serie A TIM 2016-17 match played between Palermo vs Roma
Catch all the goals scored in Serie A TIM 2016-17 match played between Palermo vs Roma

A makeshift Roma warmed up for Thursday night's massive return leg with Lyon in the Europa League round-of-16 by seeing off lowly Palermo in Sicily and maintaining second spot in Serie A.

Luciano Spalletti made six changes to the team that collapsed at the Parc OL ahead of the visit of the Ligue 1 side to Rome midweek, starting the barely-seen likes of Clement Grenier and Mario Rui, and it was second string Stephan El Shaarawy who gave Roma their 22nd-minute lead that thanks to some spirited Palermo...

Dzeko unrecognisable, Roma fall apart in the second half at Lyon

Alexandre Lacazette's blast in the dying embers of the match proved the highlight in a back-and-forth affair in France.

Roma's season looks increasingly like it's coming to its traditional early spring end after an embarrassing second-half collapse at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais that leaves the Giallorossi with, if not a mountain, then a very steep hill to climb in the second leg of their Europa League tie with Lyon.

Forty-five minutes into Thursday night's match Roma looked good for the quarterfinals after coming back from an early Mouctar Diakhaby goal to lead 2-1 through goals from Mohamed Salah and Federico...
