Dan Petrescu has been named the new coach of Guizhou Hengfeng, replacing Gregorio Manzano at the helm of the Chinese Super League's bottom side.

Petrescu's appointment was confirmed by the club on Thursday and the former Chelsea midfielder will be tasked with maintaining Guizhou's top-flight status after a poor start to the season.

Guizhou are currently in last place in the 16-team division with just four points from their first 11 games and are seven points behind 14th placed Henan Jianye. The bottom two clubs will be relegated at the end of the season.

Petrescu's first game in charge will be on July 18 against seven-time defending champions Guangzhou Evergrande when the league returns from its two-month World Cup hiatus.
