Fabio Capello believes his time working as a pundit on Italian television will help him hit the ground running ahead of his first game as Jiangsu Suning coach in the Chinese Super League this weekend.
The former England, AC Milan, Real Madrid and Roma boss was appointed as Choi Yong-soo's replacement last weekend. He will take charge of his first game on Sunday when Jiangsu host Changchun Yatai.
"In Italy I was a guest on some TV channels and I have commentated on CSL matches," Capello said.
"I've watched lots of Jiangsu's matches and have a certain level of understanding of the team. But I won't comment on individual players because football is a team sport."
Jiangsu, who finished as runners up in the league and cup last season, are in 15th place in the 16-team division, and were knocked out of the AFC Champions League last month.
But Capello is confident that he can not only steer the club away from the relegation zone, but can launch a challenge for the Chinese FA Cup.
"When I received Jiangsu's offer, their long-term plan struck me," he said. "I'm here first to lift our position in the Chinese Super League rankings, and in the meantime try to gain something in the Chinese FA Cup.
"After three days training, I have got to know the players' abilities and I think we will be able to fight on in both competition. I have a lot of faith in both the Suning corporation, and in the club."
The Italian has been joined by Gianluca Zambrotta, who will work as his assistant.
Capello is confident his compatriot can play a key role in helping Jiangsu's apparent inability to keep clean sheets.
"Zambrotta will be focusing on the construction of the defence," Capello said.
"As one of the best defenders in the world, he also has rich coaching experience. I will also share my knowledge of defence with him too."
