Guangzhou Evergrande up to third with victory as Hebei CFFC are thwarted

Ricardo Goulart scored twice and made another as Guangzhou Evergrande beat Tianjin Teda 3-0 to go third in the Chinese Super League.

Goulart gave the defending champions the lead from the penalty spot in the 13th minute after Alan Carvalho had been brought down, striking again in the 72nd when he hooked home after a mistake by Teda keeper Du Jia.

The Brazilian turned provider six minutes from the end as he set up Yu Hanchao.

"We controlled the game and created more chances than Tianjin," Evergrande coach Luiz Felipe Scolari said. "Most importantly, we converted our chances.

"My expectation was to gain 11 points from the first five rounds. Now we have gained 10 points and that is acceptable.

"If you want to win the league title it is not only about the first five rounds or 10 rounds. But we had good opponents in our first five matches, and I'm OK with what we have done."

Guangzhou are now level with Shanghai SIPG and Guangzhou R&F, who led at the beginning of the weekend and take on Liaoning Whowin on Monday knowing victory will return them to the summit.

Earlier in the day, Hebei CFFC were denied a third win in a row by Yanbian Funde in a 1-1 draw.

Aloisio gave Manuel Pellegrini's Hebei the lead 11 minutes into the second half, but South Korea's Kim Seung-Dae levelled 12 minutes from time.
