Gervinho: Foreign players share Chinese Super League bonuses

Former Arsenal forward Gervinho says he and other foreign stars in China have tried to share out their bonuses to ensure that local players benefit.

Gervinho, 28, penned a lucrative contract with Hebei China Fortune after they agreed an €18 million deal with Roma in February.

The Ivory Coast international vowed to prove his worth on the pitch and earlier this month he scored the winning goal on his Chinese Super League debut against Guangzhou R&F.

Gervinho confirmed in L'Equipe on Wednesday that players were offered €60,000 in performance-related bonuses for that match and that his team could end up earning between €800,000 and €1m in a game.

Argentine international Ezequiel Lavezzi, Cameroon midfielder Stephane Mbia and ex-Chelsea winger Gael Kakuta are also on the books of the Chinese club, and Gervinho said the marquee signings have sought to redistribute the bonus payments.

"We try to think of the squad," he said. "Here you need 18 names on the teamsheet. We know that the Chinese players don't have the same salary or the same bonuses as us.

"We went to see the staff so that everyone might benefit from it -- even those who are in reserve or who don't play.

"We already earn a good living. So we shared it out because we want there to be a good atmosphere in the squad. If it's €60,000, it's €60,000 for everyone."
