Alexis Sanchez to miss Chile WCQ match vs. Colombia with calf strain

Chile forward Alexis Sanchez has a light muscle strain and his participation for La Roja against Uruguay is under medical evaluation, the Chile federation said on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old left Chile training early on Tuesday to undergo medical testing for what was feared to be a torn calf muscle.

However, Chile's medical team confirmed the muscle strain on its official website.

He will miss his country's World Cup qualifying match against Colombia in Barranquilla on Thursday, but will be evaluated before the Nov. 15 match against Uruguay.

"The medical staff of Chile's national team would like to inform that Alexis Sanchez has a low grade muscle injury. He will remain in Santiago, under treatment and his participation for Chile against Uruguay will be evaluated."

Sanchez played the full 90 minutes on Sunday as Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw with Tottenham.

CNN Chile had earlier reported that the attacker left this morning's training session with Chile due to pain in his muscle and was sent for tests.

The former Barcelona and Udinese player has had an excellent start to the season, spearheading the attack with eight goals and seven assists.

Chile sit fifth in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying table, level with Argentina on points and goal difference, though Chile have scored more goals.

They gained two extra points after FIFA ordered Bolivia to forfeit their World Cup qualifying matches against Chile and Peru for fielding an ineligible player.
