Chilean football federation president Sergio Jadue resigns from post

SANTIAGO, Chile -- Chile's football federation says its president has officially resigned.

Sergio Jadue's resignation was announced Wednesday. It comes just hours after he traveled overnight to the United States amid a corruption investigation.

Local television aired footage of Jadue arriving at Santiago's airport on Tuesday night. He declined to comment on whether he will be helping U.S. authorities who are investigating corruption in world football, saying only he is taking a vacation with his family before boarding a plane.

Last week, Jadue denied that he planned to resign. The federation then announced that he would take a 30-day medical leave. His wife said he suffered from depression.

Members of Chile's investigations police then visited the headquarters of the federation to notify him that he was wanted for questioning as part of a probe.
