Chelsea's Pedro has backed Alvaro Morata to bounce back from his frustrating official debut in the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal.
Premier League champions Chelsea were beaten 4-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
Morata, who joined from Real Madrid last month, came on in the 74th minute and missed his penalty in the shootout.
But Pedro told Onda Cero radio: "Morata is an important player and will become a key player for us.
"He is going to bring a lot to this team, especially with his goals. He needs time to adapt. We will soon benefit from his goals."
Morata, who scored 20 goals as Madrid won La Liga and the Champions League last season, had chances.
He missed a great opportunity with a header from a Cesc Fabregas free kick before missing the target in the shootout.
Pedro, meanwhile, was sent off for the first time in his career in the 80th minute after a foul on Mohamed Elneny, with the resulting free kick leading to Arsenal's equaliser.
But the former Barcelona winger said he felt that decision "was rather rigorous," adding: "I saw it on television and we see fouls like that a million times in this league.
"I'm not a referee, but I think the punishment was excessive. I know that in Spain it would have been a red card, but here they allow for much more contact.
"Considering it was a final and the fact that the player got up very quickly, I didn't think that the foul deserved a red card.
"It's a real pity because we were dominating, and that unfortunate episode changed the game."
