Chelsea's John Terry doubtful for Liverpool game, David Luiz may play

Antonio Conte is sweating on the fitness of John Terry ahead of Friday's Premier League match against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, with David Luiz in line to make his Chelsea return if the 35-year-old fails to recover from an ankle injury.

Terry left the Liberty Stadium on crutches after rolling his ankle in the last minute of Chelsea's 2-2 draw with Swansea City on Sunday and collapsing in agony at the final whistle.

He later posted a video on Instagram showing a member of the Blues' medical staff working to ease the swelling around the injury.

Speaking after the match, Conte said of Terry: "I don't know [the extent of the injury]. Tomorrow we will see the situation about his ankle, but he is a warrior. I'm not worried."

Terry posted a video on his Instagram page showing him receiving treatment on the ankle.

If Terry is not fit enough for the visit of Liverpool then Luiz, who returned to Chelsea on deadline day in a deal reportedly worth around £34 million, is likeliest to deputise.

Luiz began training with the rest of the Chelsea squad on Tuesday and in a news conference to preview the Swansea match, Conte admitted that the Brazilian and fellow deadline-day arrival Marcos Alonso would need time and work to adjust to his tactical demands.

The Chelsea head coach also reiterated that he plans to use Luiz at centre-back rather than in midfield and insisted that, at 29, the Brazilian is "a fantastic age to become one of the best defenders in the world."
