Diego Costa will miss Chelsea's trip to Swansea City next weekend after admitting a Football Association (FA) charge of improper conduct relating to his red card during Chelsea's 2-0 FA Cup defeat to Everton last month.
Costa, 27, was shown a second yellow card by referee Michael Oliver in the 84th minute at Goodison Park as a result of his aggressive reaction to a foul by Everton midfielder Gareth Barry, but protested angrily to the official rather than leaving the pitch immediately.
He has also been fined £20,000 and warned as to his future conduct.
The striker was given a two-match ban for his first dismissal in English football, missing the 2-2 home draw against West Ham United and Saturday's game at Aston Villa. But now he will miss a third game after the FA took action.
A statement released by the FA read: "Following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing on Thursday (31 March 2016), Chelsea's Diego Costa has been given a one-match suspension, fined £20,000 and warned as to his future conduct.
"The forward admitted a charge of improper conduct in relation to his behaviour after he was shown a second yellow card in The FA Cup Sixth Round tie on 12 March 2016 at Goodison Park.
"This suspension will follow immediately on the conclusion of the player's current ban."
Guus Hiddink has suggested that Alexandre Pato will get a chance to impress for Chelsea in the final eight matches of the Premier League season, and his chance could come sooner with Costa's additional ban.
The FA had already cleared Costa of making an offensive gesture towards Everton supporters at half-time of the same match, having been satisfied with the Spain international's account of the incident.
It had also been decided that Costa had no case to answer over accusations that he bit Barry in the neck during the altercation that led to his red card, after both players publicly denied that the offence took place.
Costa's form has been revitalised under interim manager Guus Hiddink, registering 11 goals and six assists in 16 Chelsea appearances in all competitions since the Dutchman succeeded Jose Mourinho in December.
However, last month sources told ESPN FC that the 27-year-old is considering his future at Stamford Bridge.
