Guus Hiddink coy on Chelsea links amid Jose Mourinho doubts

Chelsea's former caretaker manager Guus Hiddink has suggested he would be open to returning to Stamford Bridge, telling Voetbal International: "Top-class football will always be attractive."

Jose Mourinho has been linked with an exit after a dismal start to the season, and there have been claims he could be sacked if Chelsea lose to Liverpool on Saturday.

Hiddink took the Chelsea job on a temporary basis in 2009 after the dismissal of Luiz Felipe Scolari, winning the FA Cup and reaching the Champions League semifinals, and he has been touted as a potential option should Mourinho be dismissed.

The 68-year-old, currently a free agent after being sacked as Netherlands boss in June, told the Dutch newspaper he is happy to leave the speculation "for what it is."

The former PSV Eindhoven, Real Madrid and South Korea boss indicated that he could be interested in taking charge of the Premier League champions.

"Top-class football will always be attractive. Lately there have been offers coming my way, but there hasn't been anything I wanted to take up straight away. We'll see -- we'll have to wait."

Carlo Ancelotti, who is available after being sacked as Real Madrid boss, has also been linked with a return to Chelsea, while Pep Guardiola has been suggested as a target with his Bayern Munich contract set to expire next summer.

However, Mourinho said after the penalty shootout defeat to Stoke in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday that he does not need any reassurances over his job, and sources have told ESPN FC that Chelsea are mindful that his departure would cost the club £30 million in compensation.
