Jose Mourinho: Chelsea 'don't need dramatic changes' in transfer market

Jose Mourinho says he is optimistic that Petr Cech will stay at Chelsea next season, while also revealing that the Premier League will only do "a little bit of business."

Manchester United have already bought Dutch winger Memphis Depay for £25 million and are rumoured to be considering a £40m bid for Tottenham's Harry Kane, while Chelsea have been linked to Antoine Griezmann and Koke from Atletico Madrid.

Mourinho initially joked about how busy he'd be, but did express his fear that some top clubs could distort the market with big bids.

"I expect to be busy walking from my towel on the sand to the water, swim a little bit and be back in the sun again," he said. "That's where I expect to be busy. But, without fun, a little bit everywhere. But just a little bit.

"I like my squad very, very much. It's a young squad with space to improve. And I'm in a different position to last season. Then, I was more than keen for my club to sell some players and in this moment I'm very, very happy to keep my players. The base last year was to sell to buy. The base this season is to keep my squad."

Mourinho also expects the summer transfer market to be busy as rivals attempt to reel in his Chelsea side.

"The market is difficult. I can imagine that, this season, will be like Wall Street collapsing," he added. "I can imagine that some clubs are coming with such determination to the market that they will disrupt the market and take it to an unexpected directions.

"But we are in a good situation. We have this stability in our squad. We don't need dramatic changes. We have to be loyal to our players. We believe in them. We have a good squad.

"What other clubs are going to do is not going to affect our direction. If others buy 10 players each, that will not push us to do things we're not going to do. We are stable.

"Last season we had stability to analyse the needs to improve the team. This season we have stability to keep our squad, our team, but to give some extra motivation to the squad and a couple of extra options to improve."

There will be some outgoings and incomings but Mourinho hopes goalkeeper Cech will stay at Stamford Bridge despite being displaced as first choice by Thibaut Courtois.

Cech's agent, Viktor Kolar, said on Thursday that Cech had been allowed to talk to other clubs, but Mourinho played down the reports.

"I don't know that's absolutely true, what the agent is saying. Or maybe it is," he said. "But, after that, the player has a contract with Chelsea and Chelsea will have a very important say in the decision.

"I keep saying the same: I want my best players [to stay]. Petr is one of my best players. I want my important players. Petr is one of my important players. So I would like him to say.

"That's my position. I am positive, I am optimistic, and I'd like him to stay, so yes I expect him [to stay]. I'm optimistic he can be here next year."
