Jose Mourinho: Roman Abramovich 'very happy' with Chelsea

Jose Mourinho has dismissed the suggestion Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich may not be satisfied with the Premier League leaders' style of play.

Chelsea currently sit 10 points clear at the top of the table and could clinch the title as early as this weekend but, after the 0-0 draw at Arsenal on Sunday, the home supporters reacted by chanting: "Boring, boring Chelsea."

Mourinho strongly rejected that accusation, but he saw his trophy-laden first stint as Chelsea boss brought to an end in 2007 amid rumours Abramovich wanted to see the team play more attractive football.

Abramovich decided to buy the club after watching Manchester United's thrilling 4-3 Champions League second-leg victory over Real Madrid in 2003, and he is said to have made serious efforts to attract Pep Guardiola to Stamford Bridge after being impressed with the manner in which his Barcelona side dominated world football.

However, Mourinho said the Russian was delighted with Chelsea's draw at Arsenal as they close in on a first league title since 2010.

"Roman is very happy," Mourinho told reporters. "I saw him hugging the players in the dressing room after the game.

"He can be in Russia and live the game the same way [that] he lives it in a box at Stamford Bridge but, yes, I think he's happy and I think every Chelsea fan is happy if we win the title. If we win the title, we have a fantastic Premier League with everything."

Mourinho, who competed against Guardiola's Barcelona during his stint as Real Madrid boss, also rejected the idea that the Blaugrana represented the pinnacle of football.

"Barcelona play the beautiful game every week?" he asked. "And when they were at their peak was when? When Real Madrid were champions [in 2011-12]?

"For me, the beautiful game is to go to every game and know exactly the way you have to play and what you have to do. Against Arsenal we were brilliant.

"What is that, style and flair? The way people analyse style and flair is to take the goals out of the pitch. It's the football they play in the moon, where the surface is not good. Some holes. But no goals. When football becomes without goals you will say it's boring. You will say bring the goals back."

Asked about the robust play of Atletico Madrid, who won the Spanish title in 2013-14 and reached the Champions League final at Chelsea's expense, Mourinho said: "They beat us, and reached the Champions League final.

"They were champions in Spain playing against Real Madrid and Barcelona. But can you compare Chelsea with Atletico? You can't. They are the best in the way they play. Full respect for them.

"But tell me in the Premier League who plays better than us? No one? So tell that [to the public].

"Do you think there is in the Premier League one manager who will say that Chelsea don't deserve to be champions? I think, out of 19 managers, a huge percentage will say Chelsea deserve to win the league."
