Chelsea's Diego Costa back in training next week, Loic Remy may face United

Jose Mourinho has said Diego Costa is set to return to training next week and Loic Remy has a better than 50-50 chance of being fit to face Manchester United.

The Chelsea boss added that he has no new injury concerns for Saturday's game at Stamford Bridge.

Costa, who was substituted during the 2-1 victory over Stoke with a recurrence of his hamstring problem, had been expected to miss the rest of the month with the injury but Mourinho said he could be in contention for the trip to Arsenal on April 26.

"Diego is progressing very well," he said. "I think he has a chance for the next weekend. Our target was for him to play the last four matches. Arsenal is the sixth from the end, so if he doesn't play against Arsenal or Leicester [on April 29], it is not a problem because we were always focusing on the last four.

"But things are going so well he has a chance [to face Arsenal]. He's training, he starts training with the rest of the squad next week."

He will not be available for the visit of United this weekend, but the Blues may be able to call on Remy, who missed Sunday's 1-0 win over QPR, with the Chelsea manager saying: "He has a chance."

Asked if that chance was better than 50-50, he said: "Yes."

Chelsea's positive news on injuries contrasts with the situation at United, who will be without Michael Carrick, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones this weekend, as well as the suspended Jonny Evans.

Mourinho, though, denied that Louis van Gaal's team had been weakened by the absence of so many first-team players.

"I disagree," he said. "Their squad is amazing. So many options, so many solutions. Amazing."

He also claimed that United remain in contention to win the Premier League this season.

Chelsea are the overwhelming favourites as they sit seven points clear of second-placed Arsenal and still have a game in hand on their title rivals.

United, a point behind Arsenal in third, have recently found form and Mourinho was asked whether they would be contenders for the title next season.

He replied: "They are fighting for the title. They are already fighting [now]."
