Jose Mourinho: Chelsea are in pole position to win the Premier League

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes his side are "in the best position" after they headed into the international break with a six-point lead at the top of the Premier League after the win against Hull on Sunday.

With a game in hand on all their rivals as well, Mourinho accepts his side are in pole position to claim the Premier League title as he suggested they hold all the aces moving into the final few weeks of the campaign.

"Now we are in the best position since the beginning of the season," Mourinho told the Chelsea website. "The maximum lead we had was eight points, but when we had eight points [earlier in the season] we were speaking about 20 matches to go.

"Now we have six points [lead] with one match in hand and with 24 possible points for our opponents to win."

Loic Remy was the Chelsea match winner in the game against Hull after the Frenchman came off the bench to score a late winner in the 3-2 success, with Mourinho revealing a late change of plans meant his back-up striker needed to revise his role in the game as he came off the bench to replace the injured Diego Costa.

"What I told him was that he was going to be playing with Diego together, and I told him the spaces where I wanted him to go so everything I told him was about playing with Diego," added the Blues boss, reflecting on the injury that has kept Costa out of international duty with Spain this week.

"Suddenly Diego is injured and is out and it is a different game and different positional play for Loic because he is playing as a lone striker, but we were creating from the sides and the cross came and then his pass to the goal, because it was not a shot, it was a pass, was great for us and great for him because he deserves that."

Chelsea are next in action when they take on Stoke at Stamford Bridge on April 4th and by then, Arsenal could be their nearest challengers at the top of the Premier League because the Gunners kick-off before the Blues on that day and will have a chance to overtake Manchester City and move into second place in the table.
