Chelsea have told Sky Sports News that striker Diego Costa has a "minor muscular injury" amid reports he faces six weeks out.

Both the Daily Telegraph and The Sun reported on Thursday that the Spain international had sustained a hamstring injury during the previous day's training and could be out of action until October.

However, the Blues have played down those claims, telling Sky that the injury is minor and will be monitored over the coming days.

The striker had suffered a hamstring problem towards the end of last season while representing Atletico Madrid and he was only able to play nine minutes of the Champions League final as a result.

Costa has made an impressive start to his Chelsea career, scoring in both the 3-1 victory over Burnley and the 2-0 win over Leicester that followed.

Chelsea currently have only Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres as senior alternatives to the Brazil-born striker, and AC Milan have confirmed their interest in signing the latter.
