Charlton Athletic 'not for sale' amid Australian consortium takeover talk

Charlton Athletic is not for sale despite reports linking the club with a takeover by an Australian company, a spokesman for the League One side has said.

The Daily Mail reported that Australian Football Consortium Ltd (AFC) is planning a £20 million takeover of the club, which is owned by Roland Duchatelet.

However, a Charlton spokesman said: "The club is not for sale and our concentration is on maintaining our League One status."

A spokesperson for the team also told Kent Live: "The rumours and speculation regarding the sale of Charlton Athletic are unhelpful.

"There are many people, mostly intermediaries, who approach us regularly asking whether the club is for sale.

"Whilst we understand Charlton Athletic will always generate interest from potential investors, our priority is to focus on the remaining games this season and planning for a successful 2017-18 season."

Duchatelet's running of the club, which he bought in 2014, has come under intense scrutiny by Charlton fans, who are unhappy at the turnover of managers and the team's poor form.

Charlton, who were relegated from the Premier League in 2006-07, are currently 16th in League one.
