Timothy Weah scores on Celtic debut to seal Scottish Cup progress

United States international Timothy Weah scored on his debut for Celtic as the Scottish champions beat Airdrieonians 3-0 to progress to the round of 16 of the Scottish Cup.

"It's really a dream come true,'' Weah told the BBC.

Weah, 18, is on loan from PSG and, 14 minutes after coming off the bench, ran onto a Dedryck Boyata through ball to put the finishing touches to the game with the final goal in the 83rd minute.

"It's a really good vibe,'' Weah told the BBC. "The boys have made me feel really at home and it's been easy to settle in. I didn't know what to expect. I just wanted to go out there and play with a clear head.''

Earlier, Scott Sinclair missed a first-half penalty but then scored five minutes later before doubling the lead after half-time following an error from Airdrieonians goalkeeper David Hutton.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers said afterwards: "It took us a bit of time to get going, but after that first 15-20 minutes, we started to find the gaps.

"Scored three goals, missed a penalty, had a lot more chances and had a goal ruled out that would have given Scott [Sinclair] a hat trick."

Weah is the son of former AC Milan star George Weah -- a star striker for PSG and Milan in the 1990s, and now President of Liberia -- who in 1995 became the first, and still the only, African-born player to win FIFA's world footballer of the year award and France's Ballon d'Or.

Tim was born in New York. He has made eight appearances for the U.S. team, scoring in a friendly against Bolivia in May, and plays as an attacking midfielder.
