Celtic's Odsonne Edouard has sentence for air-gun incident upheld

Odsonne Edouard celebrates after putting Celtic in front against Rangers.
Odsonne Edouard now plays for Celtic.

Celtic's Odsonne Edouard has been handed a four-month suspended prison sentence and fines for his role in an air-gun incident while on loan at Toulouse from former club Paris Saint-Germain in February 2017.

The 20-year-old France youth international was found guilty in July of last year of shooting a passer-by with an airsoft-BB gun pellet through the window of his car before driving off. He appealed the verdict.

Edouard, who consequently saw his loan deal with Toulouse terminated, was also ordered to pay a €10,000 fine and damages to the victim, and his appeal has now failed.

On top of the four-month suspended jail term and fines, the man from Kourou in French Guiana is also banned from possessing any type of firearm over a five-year period.

Toulouse youth academy graduate Mathieu Cafaro -- who was in the car with Edouard at the time of the incident and was suspected of actually firing the gun -- was sacked by the club because of the incident and is now a Stade de Reims player.

Edouard has since left PSG, joining Celtic for a club-record transfer fee after a successful initial loan spell with the Scottish champions last season.
