Celtic striker Moussa Dembele can be another Didier Drogba - Rodgers

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has told The Daily Telegraph he believes that striker Moussa Dembele can be as good as Didier Drogba.

Former Fulham player Dembele scored twice as Celtic and Manchester City played out a thrilling 3-3 Champions League draw at Celtic Park on Tuesday.

And Rodgers said the 20-year-old was "a big game player" who was "making nice strides."

"I worked with Didier Drogba at Chelsea and I think Moussa's of that ilk," the manager said. "This boy's just turned 20. He's still a baby but he's tough.

"What I see in Moussa is that he's a big game player. He really comes alive in the big games such as Wednesday's.

"He has a belief. He said he wanted to be the world's best player when he came here and we shall see, but he is making nice strides, isn't he?"

Dembele, who was Rodgers' first Celtic signing and cost the club a reported £500,000 in compensation, signed a four-year contract with the Scottish champions.

Rodgers said £15 million would be enough to buy the striker's "left toe," and added: "The great thing about Moussa's situation is that there was a strategy behind him coming here in the beginning.

"That was through the cleverness of his agent and the responsibility and maturity of the player to know that he could go to other big clubs -- and you can see why he would go -- but for a boy just turned 20 to perform like that against a top team shows you the potential that is there."

Rodgers added that Dembele had come to Celtic Park "to learn, and he's actually loving his life here."
