Tom Rogic looking forward to Celtic success under Brendan Rodgers

Tom Rogic is looking forward to more excitement under Brendan Rodgers after celebrating his new Celtic contract in style against Motherwell on Wednesday night.

The 23-year-old Australia midfielder signed a new deal on Tuesday which keeps him at the Glasgow club until 2019.

Rogic, who had an injury-interrupted start to his Parkhead career following his move from Central Coast Mariners in 2013, showed why the Hoops boss was so keen to keep him with two goals in the 5-0 Betfred Cup last-16 win over the Steelmen which set up a quarter-final tie against Alloa.

Two of Rodgers' new signings, Moussa Dembele and Scott Sinclair, also got in on the goal act during an ominously impressive 90 minutes by the Scottish champions.

The French striker grabbed a brace, one from the spot, while the former Aston Villa forward scored his second Celtic goal in his first start after coming off the bench to notch the winner against Hearts at Tynecastle on Sunday as the home side hit top form and Rogic anticipates more of the same under the former Liverpool boss.

"It was a good couple of days for me," he said. "I am happy to commit my future to the club and it was a perfect way to round that off. I am really happy.

"Since [Rodgers] has come in the whole environment has been positive so it has been pleasing.

"And working with him, I, along with the other players in the team, feel as though he can get the best out of us and it is exciting.

"Everyone wants to be a part of it. I think the future is bright.

"I am settled here. My girlfriend and I have been here for a few years now and we are happy off the pitch and it a great club, a fantastic club and there is a real buzz about the place at the moment.

"So it is enjoyable to work with and as I said, I am looking forward to working with [Rodgers] in the future."

While "not getting carried away" with the dismantling of Motherwell where visiting keeper Craig Samson and imprecise finishing prevented heavier punishment, Rogic acknowledged the positive performance from the home side who, due to injuries and suspension, were without several first-team players including top scorer Leigh Griffiths.

He said: "It was good. Sometimes these games can be a bit more tricky than they seem.

"Motherwell are a good side and we knew they were going to be really tough but I think we performed well as a team for the full 90 minutes.

"We didn't give them much so it was a pleasing performance all round and on a personal note to get a couple of goals was nice too."

Rogic is happy to be at home against League One side Alloa later in the month.

"The main things is we focus on ourselves," said Rogic. "It is always nice to play at home.

"It is something we always enjoy, the fans make it a good atmosphere."
