Celtic held talks with former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers - sources

Former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has held talks with Celtic over the vacant manager's job, sources have told ESPN FC.

Rodgers has been out of work since leaving Liverpool in October with Jurgen Klopp brought in to replace him at Anfield.

The Northern Irishman has been having a break from football, but is ready to return to management for the start of next season.

Swansea were reportedly keen to bring Rodgers back to the Liberty Stadium before deciding to give Francesco Guidolin a new deal following his success in guiding the club away from relegation this season.

Celtic have now expressed an interest in Rodgers as they look to bring in a new man to replace Ronny Deila at Parkhead following a disappointing two-year spell in charge.

Rodgers has never hidden his admiration for Celtic and recently spoke in glowing terms of the Scottish giants.

"It's an incredible club -- a club that my family and many friends support," said Rodgers earlier this month. "The league hasn't been so competitive, but it's a club that's one of the great iconic ones in the world."

Sources have also told ESPN FC that Rodgers is one of many names on the club's shortlist to become their new manager with the likes of former Everton and Manchester United boss David Moyes, ex-Cardiff chief Malky Mackay and current Republic of Ireland assistant manager Roy Keane also contenders for the job.
