Celta Vigo hire Barcelona assistant Juan Carlos Unzue as coach

Celta Vigo have confirmed the appointment of Juan Carlos Unzue as the club's new first team coach on a two-year deal.

Unzue returns to Celta having spent the 2013-14 season at Balaidos working as Luis Enrique's No. 2 before following the Asturian coach to Barcelona, where he's spent the past three years.

Barca had considered him as a candidate to replace Luis Enrique -- who leaves Camp Nou after deciding not to extend his contract -- but in the end reportedly preferred Ernesto Valverde, with confirmation to come on Monday.

Unzue replaces outgoing coach Eduardo Berizzo in Vigo and will take assistant coach Robert Moreno, fitness coach Rafel Pol and psychologist Joaquin Valdes with him from Barca.

Before linking up with Luis Enrique in 2013, former goalkeeper Unzue's only experience in management was two brief spells with Numancia and Racing Santander.
