Celta Vigo have confirmed that Giuseppe Rossi will be out for at least six months after suffering a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee against Eibar on Sunday.
The American-born Italy international was substituted in the 35th minute of Celta's 2-0 loss to Eibar on Sunday after falling awkwardly. He walked off the field and sat on the bench.
Immediately after the match, Celta said Rossi, who has suffered three serious injuries -- all to his right knee -- in previous years, would undergo tests, and confirmed on Monday that he would have surgery.

A club statement said: "Medical tests carried out on striker Giuseppe Rossi reveal that the Celtic player suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament of his left leg.
"The player will need to undergo surgery and the recovery period will not be less than six months.
"Real Club Celta sends a message of encouragement and support to the player as he targets a total recovery. Cheers, Rossi!"
Rossi's career has been plagued by injuries. After starting at Manchester United, he broke out after a move to Villarreal in 2007. Rossi was in line to join the elite scorers in Europe when he tore his right ACL during a game against Real Madrid in October 2011.
He needed three operations before returning in May 2013 after joining Italian club Fiorentina. He also missed four months of the 2013-14 season with a sprained ligament, ruling him out of Italy's World Cup squad.
Rossi underwent a fourth operation on his troublesome right knee in September 2014 and missed the entire season.
He returned to Spain last season with Levante, before joining Celta this campaign. The injury comes just one week after Rossi, 30, appeared to return to top form with a hat trick in a 3-1 win over Las Palmas, his first goals in the league this season.
