Celta Vigo eager to turn around winless start to La Liga season

Celta Vigo players are convinced their winless start to the season will soon be over.

The Galician club, who finished sixth in La Liga last season, have just one point from their opening four league games and host Sporting Gijon on Wednesday.

After selling their best attacking player, Nolito, to Manchester City in the summer, they have scored only one league goal -- Fabian Orellana's strike in the 2-1 defeat at Real Madrid -- which is their lowest total after four games for 51 seasons.

"We are eager to turn the situation around," Celta defender Hugo Mallo told Marca. "Sometimes the ball goes in, and other times it doesn't."

Striker Iago Aspas told local newspaper Faro de Vigo: "We play well, but we are lacking efficiency to score. The rest we do well -- all we are missing is goals.

"But I'm certain that soon we will succeed."

Aspas, who has started three league games, believes Celta showed signs of improvement in Sunday's goalless draw at Osasuna.

"After three straight league defeats we came out very determined and the only thing we were missing was the finishing touch to take the lead," the 29-year-old said.

He will make his 200th official appearance against Sporting and said: "It will be an honour for me to reach this figure, and I hope I can celebrate such an occasion with a win."

Coach Eduardo Berizzo said his team had been unlucky against Osasuna, telling Marca: "We had two shots that hit the post and the Osasuna goalkeeper made some saves.

"But we need to complete our plays in attack and make the right choice when making the final pass."

Aspas was Celta's top scorer in Spain's top flight last season with 14 goals, while Nolito scored 12 times and set up seven other goals.
