Williamson suspended for Gills trip

Central defender Mike Williamson will miss Tuesday night's Capital One Cup second-round trip to Gillingham through suspension.

The 30-year-old will sit out after being sent off for two bookable offences in Saturday's 0-0 Barclays Premier League draw at Aston Villa, although he might have done so in any case with Steven Taylor waiting in the wings.

Young midfielders Rolando Aarons and Mehdi Abeid and striking counterpart Adam Armstrong could be handed a chance, although manager Alan Pardew does not intend to make wholesale changes despite being without defenders Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa (knock) and Davide Santon (knee), midfielder Cheick Tiote (hamstring) and frontman Papiss Cisse (knee).

After two successive games without scoring, Pardew has urged his side to find some cutting edge.

He also insisted he has faith the attackers at his disposal can deliver goals.

"I think we have goals in this team," he said.

"It doesn't really over-concern me. But that (the lack of goals) will be put against us as we stand."

Danny Kedwell will lead out Gillingham at home.

Captain Doug Loft continues to struggle with an Achilles problem and the 31-year-old forward will deputise as captain in his place. Joe Martin (knee) could continue to miss out, while Josh Hare (concussion) may return after sitting out the 4-1 loss at Barnsley.

Gavin Hoyte, who signed for the club last week, is set to make his third appearance in seven days after his arrival eased Peter Taylor's injury concerns.

Loan goalkeeper Stephen Bywater has Millwall's permission to play in the competition and Taylor must choose whether to play the former Derby man or stick with Glenn Morris, who played in their first-round win at Yeovil.
