Alphonso Davies, 16, sent off in friendly for Canada

Canada's teenage star Alphonso Davies was sent off with a straight red card in Canada's friendly win over Jamaica on Saturday night.

Davies, 16, only lasted six minutes as a substitute before he was sent off for kicking out at Jamaica defender Damion Lowe after the two became tangled by the endline.

Canada coach Octavio Zambrano said he had not seen a replay of the incident but had no complaints with the decision, judging by Davies' reaction.

"I think Alphonso's reaction was really one where you can probably think that he felt there was nothing to argue about, and he just left, that's all," Zambrano said.

Davies made his MLS debut last year with the Vancouver Whitecaps and turned heads this summer with three goals in the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The sending off was the first of his career for club or country. He had previously only received one yellow card, in a CONCACAF Champions League game in March.

Canada was already ahead 2-0 at the time, and Jamaica could not capitalize on the man advantage.

Anthony Jackson-Hamel scored the opener in Toronto before providing an assist for Jonathan Osorio.
