Samuel Eto'o retires from Cameroon

Samuel Eto'o explained how manager Roberto Martinez persuaded him to join Everton, as the Cameroonian striker signs on a two-year deal.

Samuel Eto'o announced on Twitter that he is ending his international career for his native Cameroon.

The veteran played just once in this summer's World Cup, a 1-0 Group A defeat to Mexico, and has now decided to call time on his Cameroon career.

- O'Farrell: Eto'o brings cover, tutelage for Lukaku

Eto'o played 118 times for his country, including at four World Cups, after making his debut against Costa Rica in 1997. He scored 56 goals to become Cameroon's all-time highest goalscorer.

Eto'o's illustrious club side career is starting a new chapter as his international career comes to an end. The striker just signed a two-year contract with Everton after being released by Chelsea at the end of last year's Premier League season.
