New manager Zdenek Zeman locks doors at Cagliari training facility

Zdenek Zeman locked the doors behind him when he entered Cagliari's training facilities on Tuesday, focused on saving the club from relegation.

The Czech coach was called back to the Sardinian club after they dismissed Gianfranco Zola on Monday, but he did not want anybody to catch a glimpse of his blueprint for survival as he led two training sessions behind closed doors.

Cagliari are four points adrift of safety with 12 games of the season remaining and Zeman's first challenge is only three days away. "I'm back for the fans and to save the club," Zeman said on his only public appearance since being reinstated, on his arrival at the city's airport late Monday night. Since then, he has been hard at work trying to put right the club's wrongs with an intense time ahead.

The 67-year-old, who was sacked by Cagliari after an eight-game winless streak leading up to Christmas, has also scheduled two training sessions on Wednesday with no time to waste ahead of Saturday evening's clash at the Stadio Sant'Elia.

"The best wishes go to Zeman and his colleagues to reach the objectives that the club and the fans expect," said a statement on the Sardinian club's website.
