Success for Zesco in CAF Champions League

Zambian champions Zesco United have one foot in the next round of the CAF Champions League after a 2-1 success away at AS SONIDEP of Niger in the first leg of their preliminary tie on Tuesday.

Rahim Osumanu put Zesco in front with 16 minutes to play, but they were pegged back shortly afterwards when Koffi Dognon levelled for the hosts.

However, Zambia international Lazarus Kambole had the last laugh as he netted a second for his side to give them a huge advantage with the home leg to come.

Cameroon side Coton Sport will have plenty of work to do after they lost 3-1 to ASF Bobo Dioulasso, despite taking the lead at the Stade Général Aboubacar Sangoulé Lamizana.

Algerian side CS Constantine were surprisingly held 0-0 at home by GAMTEL from The Gambia, but Sudanese side Al-Hilal brushed aside JKU from Zanzibar 4-0 in Omdurman.

Libyan outfit Al-Nasr crushed Al-Hilal Juba from South Sudan 5-1, and Stade Malien claimed a 1-0 success away at Stade Centrafricaine.

In two all-COSAFA ties, Township Rollers from Botswana were held 1-1 at home by Bantu FC from Lesotho, and African Stars of Namibia drew 0-0 at Volcan Club from the Comoros.

In the Confederation Cup on Tuesday, there were 4-0 wins for Petro Atletico (Angola) over Orapa United (Botswana), Hassania Agadir (Morocco) against AS GNN (Niger), USM Bel Abbès (Algeria) versus LISCR (Liberia) and Mtibwa Sugar (Tanzania) at home to Northern Dynamo (Seychelles).

Kariobangi Sharks from Kenya had an even bigger victory as they won 6-1 at home to Arta/Solar7 from Djibouti.

Green Eagles from Zambia triumphed 2-0 at home to Young Buffaloes from Swaziland and perhaps face a tough trip for the return leg next week, NA Hussein Dey from Algeria edged Diables Noirs from Congo-Brazzaville by the same scoreline.

Finally, Stade d'Abidjan collected an excellent 2-1 away win at Nouakchott Kings in Mauritania that puts them on course for the next stage.

The return legs in both competitions will be played on December 4-5.
