Ivorian side Williamsville AC caused a major surprise in the CAF Champions League on Tuesday when they ousted Stade Malien from the Preliminary Round with a 1-0 home win.

21-time Malian champions Stade Malien were Confederation Cup winners in 2009, but were unable to battle back after falling behind.

The teams had been square at 1-1 from the first leg, but WAC made sure of their progression with a late winner. They will now face African champions Wydad Casablanca of Morocco in the second round.

ES Setif of Algeria were held 0-0 by Central African Republic side Olympic Real de Bangui, but led 6-0 from the first leg and cruised into the next stage.

Mohamed Bashir scored a brace of goals for Sudanese giants Al-Hilal as they overturned a 1-0 first leg deficit against LISCR from Liberia to storm to a 3-1 aggregate win. Sharaf Shaiboub got the third goal for the home side.

In the Confederation Cup, there was a comfortable 1-0 win for Cape Town City as Surprise Ralani scored the only goal against Young Buffaloes of Swaziland. The South African side advance 2-0 on aggregate.

Angolan outfit Petro de Luanda were held to a 0-0 draw by Masters Security of Malawi, but had done all the hard work in the first leg and take the tie 5-0.

They will now face last year's runners-up, SuperSport United, in the next stage.

Zambian side Green Buffaloes claimed an admirable 2-1 home win over Egyptian side Al-Masry, but could not overturn their sizeable first leg deficit and lost 5-2 on aggregate.

Algerian club CR Belouizdad won their home leg 2-0 against Onze Créateurs of Mali to take the tie 3-1, while Pedro Asu scored the only goal as Deportivo Niefang from Equatorial Guinea won 1-0 at home to Cameroon's New Star to take the tie on the away goals rule after a 2-2 aggregate score.

Ivorian club AS Tanda were surprise 1-0 aggregate losers to Congo-Brazzaville side CS La Mancha, while Tanzanian team Simba SC thumped Gendarmerie Nationale of Djibouti 5-0 over two legs.

Energie from Benin stunned Guinea club Hafia, three-time African champions, with a 2-1 aggregate win, while there was also success for APR of Rwanda and AS Port-Louis 2000 of Mauritius.

The remaining first round ties in both competitions will mostly be played on Wednesday, bar the Champions League tie between Gambia Armed Forces and Zanaco from Zambia, which will be staged on Saturday.

The Southern Africans lead 3-0 from the first leg.
