Ex-Man United defender Phil Neville rules out taking Bury job - sources

Phil Neville has ruled himself out of the running for the vacant manager's job at League One outfit Bury, sources close to the former Manchester United defender have told ESPN FC.

Neville has been touted for the Bury job due to his close connections with the club, with his late father, Neville Neville, having worked as their commercial director and having a stand at Gigg Lane named after him, while his mother also currently works for the side.

Bury are searching for a new manager after sacking David Flitcroft earlier this month following a poor run of form. The club currently sit 19th in the League One table.

Neville has had coaching stints at Manchester United and Valencia since his retirement as a player back in 2013 and is reported to be ready to make the step up into management.

Bury sounded out Neville to see if he would consider taking his first managerial role at the club, but sources have told ESPN FC that the 39-year-old has ruled himself out of contention.

Sources have also told ESPN FC that Bury's search for a new manager has been held up because of a potential takeover of the club.
