Burnley chairman Mike Garlick has told ESPN FC that he was never concerned about manager Sean Dyche leaving the club amid speculation over his future.
Dyche has led Burnley to fourth in the table this season, with a 1-0 win over Stoke on Tuesday night taking the club into the European spots. The former Millwall and Chesterfield defender was linked with moves to Everton and Leicester before their vacant positions were filled, but Garlick is confident his manager has all the tools he needs to succeed at Burnley.
"It was never in doubt. I don't worry about the speculation," Garlick told ESPN FC. "If we are doing well and Sean's here and he is doing well, there is always going to be speculation, you can't avoid it."
Burnley's success has been borne out by England call-ups for players such as Tom Heaton and Jack Cork and, while some stars like Michael Keane and Kieran Trippier have moved on, Garlick is still keen for the club to bring young players through.
"We want to be a high-end development club in the Premier League and recognise that, if a player is really successful and at a certain age, they will want to move on to top five clubs," he said.
"Sean, first and foremost, was from a development background. He started at Watford with the under-16s and U18s, spending five or six years in that environment before getting anywhere near the first-team.
"To me, that was a key part of his skillset, that he had been through that background. You often find that managers without that background, potentially older managers, don't have the time or patience to do it anymore and we have to have that.
"Sean has been fantastic as a coach, as a man-manager, as a motivator. He has all the passion as well and he ticks all the boxes for us."
Burnley climbed above Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham into fourth with their win on Tuesday but Garlick says he is remaining grounded in terms of the club's ambition this season.
"Everyone locally will class being in the Premier League as a success, as winning. We want to be as ambitious as we can," he said. "But we have to live within our means and whatever we do has to be sustainable.
"I understand the need for more than that, so we have to look to win something else or have a good cup run in the two competitions."
