Burkina Faso, Angola play out goalless draw

Angola and Burkina Faso played out a cagey 0-0 stalemate in Agadir as both sides began their African Nations Championship campaign with a point.

Burkina Faso forward Youssouf Kabore had the best chance of the game in the 81st minute after being played in by Romeo Boni, but after rounding Angolan stopper Landu, his weak left-footed effort was comfortably cleared by a covering defender.

Angola were the brighter of the two sides during the first half and dominated possession after the break without truly menacing.

Wideman Va particularly effective with his fast feet, speed of thought, and relationship with full-back To.

However, it was Burkina Faso who had the first clear chance of the contest, when Nathanio Kompoare headed straight into the arms of Landu from close range after being picked out from a corner.

Four minutes later, Burkinabe stopper Aboubacar Sawadogo was forced to smother an Angolan attempt to keep the scores level, while Boni also forged some space for himself after wresting away Angolan centre-back Wilson, only to fire tamely at Landu.

The Palancas Negras were also gifted a fine chance just after the half-hour mark, but Paty could only head over despite being found unmarked in the box.

Paty had a later chance after again picking up possession in space on the edge of the West Africans' box, but his left-footed effort - while powerful - was batted away by Sawadogo at his near post.
