Brighton striker Glenn Murray says age is no barrier to a potential call up to Gareth Southgate's England squad.
Murray, 34, is the fourth-leading English scorer in the Premier League, with his 11 goals bettered only by Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy and Raheem Sterling.
He scored five times in his last five league appearances before a 2-0 defeat at Everton on Saturday, and his recent form could lead to a first selection for the striker who began his career at non-league Barrow.
England travel to the Netherlands before hosting Italy at Wembley during the international break at the end of the month and Murray believes that age will not be a barrier for possible selection.
"I think [Southgate will] be taking the nucleus of the squad that he is going to take to the World Cup and work with, so we'll see," Murray said. "Of course, if you're going to ask me that at 34, yeah, [age doesn't matter]. If you're in form, you just never know.
"The competition is around the corner, It's not something we are building for four years down the line, so I think form does come into play. I think not just at my stage, at any stage of anyone's career -- [the World Cup] is sort of the pinnacle. But whether anything comes of it, I'm not sure.''
However, Murray said he has had no contact with England manager Gareth Southgate and is merely focusing on his club's survival with Brighton seven points clear of the relegation zone with eight matches left.
"My main focus is to keep scoring goals for Brighton and keep us in the Premier League," Murray said. "What comes off the back of that, you just never know. It's obviously nice to be mentioned in the same breath as the England team, but what will come of that, I'm not sure."
