Neymar will find form for Brazil in World Cup knockout games - Thiago Silva

Brazil captain Thiago Silva has backed Neymar to follow in the footsteps of Paris Saint-Germain teammates Kylian Mbappe, Edinson Cavani and Angel Di Maria in the World Cup round of 16.

Mbappe scored twice as France beat Argentina to advance -- a game in which Di Maria was also on target -- and Cavani also bagged two as Uruguay edged past Portugal.

Speaking ahead of Brazil's clash with Mexico on Monday, Silva stated his belief that Neymar will hit form in the business end of the competition.

"I think that it will be Neymar's turn [to play well and shine]," Silva said. "Both Kylian and Edinson were fundamental [in helping their countries to win], so I hope that he will be as inspired as they were.

"Angel also played very well -- even if he was eliminated in the end."

Neymar has one goal and an assist from Brazil's three group-stage matches but better is expected of PSG's €222 million world-record signing from Barcelona -- especially now that club teammate Mbappe has found form.

"Neymar is getting better," former Brazil international Roberto Carlos told Goal. "He is relaxed. He has recovered well from his injury and he is a very important player for Brazil.

"Neymar is very calm, which is the most important thing. When he is calm, I know that he can offer a lot more."

A win for Brazil against Mexico would see them come up against either Belgium or Japan in the quarterfinals before a semifinal against either France or Uruguay.
