Brazil will wait until March 12 to announce their national team for upcoming friendlies against Russia and Germany because of a number of injuries.
The Brazil federation was originally scheduled to announce the squad on Friday, but will push it back with the doctor for the national teams, Rodrigo Lasmar en route to France to meet with Paris Saint-Germain about the status of superstar Neymar, as well as Marquinhos.
Neymar suffered a crack in the fifth metatarsal of his right foot and sprained his ankle during PSG's 3-0 win over Marseille on Sunday, while Marquinhos has a leg muscle injury.
"This situation is different from previous call-ups," national teams coordinator Edu Gaspar told AS from Sochi, Russia. "We have at least five players who need more detailed medical and physical observation. We need to gather all the necessary information so that we can call up the right team."
With Neymar in a race to be fit for PSG's Champions League game against Real Madrid next week, Gaspar insisted that there was no conflict between the Brazil federation and PSG over Neymar's treatment, saying "we always uphold the decisions made by the clubs."
"The decision in favour of surgery has not been made, but we respect whatever measures PSG take with the player," he said. "The players is not under the umbrella of the national team right now. Therefore, it is up to PSG to make the decision."
Brazil's friendlies against Russia (in Moscow) and Germany (in Berlin) are scheduled for March 23 and 27, respectively.
Brazil begin their campaign for a record-extending sixth World Cup triumph against Switzerland on June 17 in Rostov-on-Don. Host nation Russia open the tournament with their match against Saudi Arabia in Moscow three days earlier.
