Brazil still developing despite thrashing of Uruguay - Dani Alves

Brazil right-back Dani Alves says Brazil are still developing despite their impressive 4-1 victory at Uruguay in World Cup qualifying on Thursday.

Midfielder Paulinho scored a hat trick and Neymar added another goal as Tite's unbeaten side fought back from an early Edinson Cavani penalty to take home an historic win over the second-placed Uruguayans and all-but-secure their place in Russia.

Cavani's goal marked the first time Brazil had trailed in a match since the former Corinthians manager took over for Dunga last summer, and the Juventus man hailed his team's upward path.

"Look, the results that we are achieving lead to this confidence to understand that we are very close of our goal," Alves said. "But it also keeps us prudent, because a few rounds ago we were fighting to secure a spot for the [intercontinental] playoff.

"With work, and attempts to improve our team, we managed to overcome the results. Today we have a big advantage, we are the leaders. But always prudent, because we know that we still miss a small step."

For Alves, Brazil, despite being seven points clear atop the CONMEBOL table with the win, are still a work in progress.

"We are developing. A kid does not run shortly after being born," he said, laughing. "He or she is born, than crawls, walk and then run. We are on this process. Our evolution is very satisfactory, which makes us very happy."

Neymar, who again played a starting role with the Selecao, scored Brazil's third on the night, and highlighted the side's maturity to deal with the difficult early circumstances.

"I think that the maturity that this team has, it's already an experienced team," Neymar said. "We can't get unsettled when we give up a goal, when we go behind, because there's still a lot of time to play. We have to remain calm, and that's what the team did.

"Congratulations to everyone and we got three points, which is most important. We started behind on the scoreboard, but we kept calm to find the goal, to find our game. Finally, I think the end was fitting, we played a great game and got a great result."
