LISBON, Portugal -- Portuguese authorities say Luiz Felipe Scolari has paid €3 million ($3.4 million) in back taxes from when he was Portugal coach between 2003 and 2007.
The Criminal Investigation Department of the attorney general's office said an investigation concluded the Brazilian owed tax on his image rights.
A statement late Tuesday said Scolari agreed to pay the outstanding tax as well as interest on it. It did not say when he paid. The case was then closed.
When the investigation began in May 2014, Scolari denied any wrongdoing. He said he had correctly filed all his tax returns and declared his income in every country he had worked.
Scolari guided Portugal to the final of the 2004 European Championship and to the semifinals of the 2006 World Cup. He resigned as Brazil manager following the 2014 World Cup and is currently coaching Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande.
