Jose Peseiro replaces Paulo Fonseca as Braga coach

Braga have appointed Jose Peseiro as their new manager to replace Paulo Fonseca, who left to take over Shakhtar Donetsk.

Fonseca led Braga to fourth place in Portugal's Primeira Liga during his only season in charge and won the Taca de Portugal, beating Porto 4-2 on penalties.

Peseiro spent the past six months in charge at Porto, replacing Julen Lopetegui in January 2016 and oversaw 12 wins in 19 league matches and a third place finish which qualifies the 27-time title winners for the Champion League playoff round.

During a managerial career that began in 1992 the 56-year-old has coached in Greece, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi and Egypt. He also spent a spell as coach of the Saudi Arabia national team from 2009-11 and as Carlos Queiroz's assistant at Real Madrid in the 2003-04 season.

Peseiro was previously in charge at Braga during the 2012-13 campaign during which they finished fourth in the Primeira Liga.
