Borussia Monchengladbach sack coach Andre Schubert after poor run of form

Borussia Monchengladbach have sacked head coach Andre Schubert after a 2-1 home defeat to Wolfsburg saw them drop to 14th in the Bundesliga.

Schubert, 45, was relieved of his duties following his side's eighth loss of the season and a run of only one win in 11 matches.

Despite a solid Champions League campaign that saw Gladbach finish third in their group behind Barcelona and Manchester City, the club felt it was time to make a change.

"We have held a lot of talks in recent days and analysed our on the pitch development, and together with Andre we have come to the conclusion that it is better for both sides to call an end to our collaboration," Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl told the club's official website.

Gladbach said they would announce a successor to Schubert "in due course."

Schubert said Gladbach "will always be more important and bigger than any individual" and praised the "great people" at the club.

He succeeded Lucien Favre when the Swiss left after five defeats from the opening five games of last season.

Although he then led the Foals to a fourth-place finish in the Bundesliga, he has now become the seventh coach in Germany's top flight to lose his job this term.
