Borussia Monchengladbach give Andre Schubert permanent deal

Borussia Monchengladbach have appointed interim boss Andre Schubert as their permanent coach.

Schubert took over from former Gladbach boss Lucien Favre on a temporary basis when the Swiss quit his role in September following a run of five consecutive Bundesliga defeats at the beginning of the season.

However, the German club have now handed the 44-year-old a permanent deal until 2017 after he managed to turn their fortunes around with six straight league wins, taking them up to sixth in the table in the process.

"Andre has done an incredible job in the last eight weeks and produced amazing results for the club," Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl said in a statement.

"We have had extensive talks in the last few days and we know that our team is in good hands. We therefore decided to give him a new contract."

Schubert had been promoted from the club's fourth-tier under-23 team, which he only took charge of in the summer.

Gladbach had initially been looking for an external solution before giving Schubert the chance, reportedly contacting Augsburg's Markus Weinzierl among others.
