Lucien Favre backed to lead Borussia Monchengladbach revival

Borussia Monchengladbach coach Lucien Favre has been given a vote of confidence ahead of his side's clash with Hamburg in the Bundesliga.

The Foals qualified for the Champions League by finishing third last season -- their greatest achievement since their 1970s heyday -- but they have started the new campaign with three successive defeats.

They host Hamburg on Friday in need of their first points of the season before they commence their European campaign on Tuesday.

Borussia Monchengladbach's first Champions League match is away to Sevilla, and they also have Premier League leaders Manchester City and Italian champions Juventus in their group.

However, director of sport Max Eberl has no doubt Favre will right the current wrongs.

"He's absolutely indispensable," Eberl told Bild. "I'm not wasting any thoughts on something like that."

Gladbach have never before started a Bundesliga season with three straight defeats and a fourth consecutive loss would increase the pressure on Favre.

The Swiss took over the Foals in February 2011, saving them from what seemed to be an inevitable relegation before guiding them into the Champions League playoffs the following season.

The 2014-15 campaign was their most successful since 1978, earning them their place in this term's Champions League group stage.
