Defender Oscar Wendt signs extension to stay at Borussia Monchengladbach

Borussia Monchengladbach have extended the contract of defender Oscar Wendt by two years until 2018.

The 29-year-old played his 100th game for the club in Saturday's 4-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund and has been rewarded with a new deal to reflect his status among the Foals.

"Oscar's become a regular and a key player for us in recent years," said Gladbach's director of sport Max Eberl.

"We're very pleased that we have been able to tie him down to us for a further two years."

The feeling was mutual with Wendt saying he had never considered any alternatives to continuing his career with Gladbach, who can offer him Champions League football this season.

"It's difficult to find any other club in European football who have everything on the same level as Borussia," he said on the club's website.

"The team, the fans, the stadium -- they are all exceptional. Moving to Borussia was one of the best decisions of my life and I'm delighted to be able to continue playing here."

Wendt joined Gladbach from Copenhagen on a free transfer in 2011 and has become a regular for his country Sweden over the past four years.
