Nuri Sahin: Dortmund's Super Cup defeat leaves 'bitter' taste

Borussia Dortmund's German Super Cup defeat on penalties to Bayern Munich left the team with a bitter feeling, midfielder Nuri Sahin said.

Dortmund twice took the lead but conceded an 88th-minute equaliser after a goalmouth scramble, and eventually fell 5-4 as the game went directly to a shootout.

Sahin insisted that Dortmund were in control of the game until the somewhat unfortunate own goal gave Bayern a lifeline.

"We started the game very well, then we lost the thread, but we really moved through to the halfway point," the Turkey international told Dortmund's official website.

"The second half then went completely to us. That is why it is very bitter to have lost in the end."

Sahin's countryman, Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Burki, agreed his side had dominated after the interval, while Bayern's late scrambled equaliser was especially galling.

"We should not have let this game go into a penalty shoot-out. In the second half, only we played," he said. "This curious goal in the 88th minute is of course very annoying. It all went very fast, I cannot say exactly what we did wrong.

"The ball clatters the bar to the line, then it is actually only luck for the Bavarians that the ball goes [in].

"The video assistant has said that everything was correct, then it will have been the case. But again, we should not have let the game go into the penalty shootout."

Dortmund coach Peter Bosz lamented the two lost leads after Christian Pulisic and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had scored for his side.

"I'm not happy with the result," Bosz said after his first game in charge. "Two minutes before the end we have to win and we have not done that.

"We were in the lead three times, even in the penalty shoot-out. In the end we have not won and I'm disappointed.

"As a coach I'm not satisfied with a defeat. On the first goal, our high press worked out and we did really well. Afterwards Bayern were better, with more chances.

"We were happy with 1-1 at the break and we played better in the second half because we were more compact and lost the ball fewer times -- before it was too many ball losses and then there was too much space for our pressing [to work] because we were not compact.

"If we do that better, it will be difficult for Bayern Munich; if we lose the ball so often, we put more pressure on ourselves."
